Diving into the Deep End of Web Dev

Creating a unique, fast, and easy to use website is key when it comes to impressing your clients. You may be familiar with free website builders that take the guesswork of code out for you, but do you really want a templated site that some users might recognize? Of course not! A unique site may require some heavy lifting with coding, but there are plenty of online resources that you can consult to help you along the way.

Let’s find out some of the best ways to learn web development if you’re a total novice.

Where to Start

With so many languages to choose from, like Python, PHP, Javascript, CSS, HTML, and Ruby, it’s tough to decide where to begin. When developing your site, it’s good to first focus on the basics.

HTML is a basic markup language that will teach you how to put the title, content, and images into your site. It’s fairly easy to learn and easily combines with other languages to make your website look professional.
However, one thing HTML has a hard time doing is website styling, including the text colors, sizing, position, and more on the page. Thankfully, that’s where CSS comes in. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets and is designed to give your website that pizzazz that makes people use the infamous Owen Wilson “wow.”

Once you know how to make your website look good, what comes next? Now that there’s a bit of programming on your utility belt, it’s time to pick a main weapon.

In this case, Javascript is the crossbow that fires applications through your site. Not only is the fastest runtime built using a Javascript engine, but it’s also the most applicable when it comes to creating unique living features on your site. The features can range from quizzes to mouse tracking and so much more!

How to Start Learning

Before you get too overwhelmed with the idea of learning web development, we are happy to say that there are many resources you can use to learn these programs. Our top two picks, however, are CodeAcademy and Udemy.

CodeAcademy is a free and easy to use program for many different coding languages. The course offers a step by step process on how each function works and even has a sandbox mode where you can see your changes appear.

This course is great for an overview of the coding process, but the free version doesn’t dive too deep into the practicality of certain features. If you want to understand what is going on in code, this course is a great start.

Another option is Udemy, which takes you step by step with video tutorials on how to set up and develop code. Many of the courses require payment, but they are well worth the price. Udemy isn’t just for the basic code development too; it goes into a lot of real world applications, including game development, design, and much more. Udemy is your top choice for an in-depth learning experience.

Getting into code development can certainly be daunting, and once you start, it goes uphill from there. Despite the learning curve, it’s well worth it to improve your business.
